Most of our wedding celebrations will take place outdoors within the beautiful palace grounds. We recommend dressing accordingly, with comfortable footwear and a light shawl or jacket for the cooler evenings.

Getting to Jaipur

Flights, trains, and how to get from wherever you are to the Pink City

Which airport should I fly into?

Fly into Jaipur International Airport (JAI). If flights are limited, New Delhi (DEL) is another option, followed by a short domestic flight or drive to Jaipur. If flying via Delhi to Jaipur, check with your airlines about luggage allowances.

How far is Jaipur from Delhi? Can I take the train?

Jaipur is approximately 270 km from Delhi - about 5 hours by road or 4–5 hours by Shatabdi Express train. The Shatabdi is comfortable, punctual, and scenic. Tickets can be booked on IRCTC. If coming from Delhi airport (DEL), there are direct short flights to Jaipur (JAI) which are quicker and equally affordable.

How do I get from Chennai or other Indian cities?

IndiGo, Air India, and SpiceJet operate direct and connecting flights from Chennai, Mumbai, and Bangalore to Jaipur (JAI). Flight time from Chennai is approximately 2.5 hours direct. Book early, December is a busy travel month across India.

How do I get from Jaipur Airport / Railway Station to R Chandra Palace?

R Chandra Palace is approximately 13 km from Jaipur International Airport (JAI), about 25–30 minutes by road. Pre-paid taxis and app cabs (Ola, Uber) are available outside the arrivals hall. For your convenience, coordinated transfers from both Jaipur Airport and Jaipur Junction Railway Station to R Chandra Palace are being arranged for confirmed guests, with return transfers on 15 December as well. In October, we will send out details on how to share your travel itineraries so we can coordinate your airport and station transfers and drop-offs. For any questions please reach out to our wedding planning team at +91 7406334839, or email them at team@thevigsmithwedding.com.

How do I get around Jaipur independently?

Jaipur is a compact, well-connected city - getting around is easy and safe. Ola and Uber operate reliably across Jaipur and are extremely affordable. Auto-rickshaws are a fun local option for short distances. Please feel free to contact the Wedding team at +91 7406334839, or email them at team@thevigsmithwedding.com for any assistance related to travel in Jaipur. Visas & Documents

For our international guests - especially those travelling from the United States

Do US citizens need a visa to visit India?

Yes. US passport holders must apply for an Indian visa before travel. Please check the travel and visa requirement section on the Travel page for further information. We strongly encourage to apply for the visa atleast 6-8 weeks before travel to allow time for any delays or queries.

Can the family provide an invitation letter for my visa application?

Yes, absolutely. If you need a formal invitation letter from the host family for your visa application, please indicate this on your RSVP under the "Any other requests, questions or special requirements?" section or contact our Wedding team directly at +91 7406334839, or email them at team@thevigsmithwedding.com.

When should I start planning my visa and flights?

For US-based guests: we recommend beginning your flight search and visa application by July–August 2026. December is a peak season across India and flights book up quickly. RSVP by 15 September 2026 and submit your visa application no later than October 2026.

Dress Code

What to wear per event

What is the dress code for each event?

Indian attire is warmly encouraged throughout the celebrations, though Western formal is equally welcome at every event. For the full color palettes, fabric inspiration, and styling guidance for each occasion, do visit our Dress Code page of this website - it's the best place to plan your wedding wardrobe.

I am not Indian and have never worn Indian clothes. Is Western formal appropriate?

Absolutely. Western cocktail attire and formal wear are entirely welcome and beautiful at all evening events. Indian festive wear - sarees, lehengas, sherwanis - can be purchased or hired in Jaipur at excellent value and quality. Please feel free to contact our Wedding team for trusted boutique recommendations.

What shoes should I pack?

Comfortable shoes are essential - events include dancing, walking on palace grounds, and standing for periods of time. For the Haldi, flat sandals or old shoes work best. For the Sangeet and Wedding Ceremony, heels are fine indoors but consider block heels or flats for the outdoor areas. December evenings in Jaipur can be cool - pack a light shawl for all evening events.

Practical Matters

Weather, money, safety, gifts, children, and everything in between

Can dietary restrictions be accommodated?

Yes. Please indicate your preferences when you RSVP.

Will hair and make-up services be available for guests?

A limited number of hair and make-up appointments may be available on the wedding days. If you would like to be assisted in arranging this, please indicate your interest in the "Any other requests, questions, or special requirements?" section of your RSVP form and our team will follow up with you on availability and details.

What is the weather in Jaipur in December?

December is one of the finest times to visit Jaipur - clear, sunny days between 18–22°C and cool evenings that drop to 8–12°C. No rain is expected. Pack light layers for evenings and early mornings. Sunscreen for daytime outdoor events is a good idea. It is essentially perfect wedding weather.

What currency should I carry? Are ATMs available?

The currency is Indian Rupees (INR). ATMs are widely available across Jaipur and at the airport. Currency exchange is easy at international airports and at major hotels. US Dollars are accepted in some tourist areas, but INR is strongly recommended for most purchases including auto-rickshaws, markets, and smaller restaurants.

Which credit cards are most widely accepted in Jaipur/India?

Visa and Mastercard are the most universally accepted cards across India, at hotels, restaurants, tourist sites, and most retail stores. American Express is accepted at premium establishments in major cities, including upscale hotels and fine dining, but may not work at smaller local vendors. We recommend carrying a Visa or Mastercard as your primary card, and checking with your bank before travel to disable foreign transaction fees, which can add 2–4% to every purchase. Having some Indian Rupees (INR) on hand for smaller purchases and tips is always advisable.

Is Jaipur safe for solo travel?

Jaipur is one of India's most visited and well-managed heritage cities, welcoming millions of international tourists every year. The area where R Chandra's Palace is located is a calm, upmarket part of the city. Standard travel precautions apply - use trusted Ola/Uber for transport, keep accommodation details handy, and stay connected with the Wedding team, reachable throughout both event days. Please refer to the Travel page of this website for useful information.

Should I bring a gift? What is appropriate?

Your presence at our celebration means everything to us - truly, that is the only thing we ask of you. Please don't feel any obligation around gifts.

Who do I contact if I have a question not covered here?
